More recently, the newspaper The Star-Ledger on 11 February 2009, reports of an epidemic of whooping cough that affected 21 children fully immunized in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. [6] In Canada, an outbreak of pertussis confirmed by a laboratory epidemiological spread among preschool children in Toronto, where more than 90% of children were updated with the calls for immunization against pertussis. The Institute for Monitoring (Watchdog Institute), a center for investigative journalism based in San Diego, has recently partnered with local television station in San Diego, kpbs, to search for the actual number of families affected by outbreak of pertussis in order to determine how many children were regularly vaccinated against the disease.
